History

1923   St Joseph's School was opened by Archbishop James Duhig on January 27th. Three Sisters of St Joseph took charge of the 63 enrolments. By the end of the year the numbers had swelled to 103 students.

1938   The school building was replaced by a new brick school, which was opened in July by Monsignor McKenna. The original building was removed, renovated and became a private home.

1958   Two extension projects were completed to cater for the rapidly growing school population. An amount of eight thousand pounds was needed for the projects. Secondary classes commenced, but due to cost and lack of support these ceased in 1961.

1979   Further extensions were officially opened by Mr Jim Corbett and blessed by Bishop Edward Kelly in February. The new wing, including furnishings, was built to a cost of $80 000.

1983   The diamond jubilee of the school was celebrated.

1991   The first lay principal was appointed to the school.

1995   The Preschool was opened with an enrolment of 12 children.

2000   The school submitted the first capital works grant to refurbish the preschool, tuckshop and administration area. This submission was successful.

2001   The school applied for a second grant to refurbish the upstairs classrooms. This submission was also successful.

2002   Works were completed in refurbishing the administration area, tuckshop and preschool. Work also began on refurbishing the upstairs classrooms.

2003   The refurbishments were officially opened in April and blessed by Bishop Morris.

A third grant was submitted to refurbish the amenities block, library and adjoining classroom.

2004   A grant was submitted to construct a new building comprising of 2 general learning areas. This submission was successful. Work on the amenities block, library and adjoining classroom were completed.

2005   The construction of the new general learning areas was completed. These classrooms were occupied at the start of the 2006 school year. The school received funds through the Prep allocation to purchase new furniture, upgrade the technology in the classroom and construct a new storage facility.

2006   The Parents and Friends Committee were successful in their application of a Gaming Grant which allowed the purchase and installation of a new adventure playground. Funds were also received through the Investing In Our Schools Program, where new student furniture was purchased for all classrooms in the school.

2007   The Lift was installed at the front of the building. This project was funded by the Catholic Education Office in Toowoomba.

2009 / 2010   St. Joseph's P&F Committee raised funds to purchase and install interactive whiteboards in every classroom in the school.

2010   Building the Education Revolution Funding was provided and accessed to build a new general learning, library and learning support block, as well as a new multi purpose hall, under the umbrella of 'Primary Schools for the 21st Century'. A Block was reroofed with the financial assistance of the 'National School Pride' initiative.

2012   A capital works grant was submitted in 2010 to renovate and extend the school administration facility. This grant was successful and the new facility was completed in January, 2012. The facility was officially blessed and opened by Fr. Jim Cronin PP and Mr John Borserio, Director of Toowoomba Catholic Education.
