Catholic Identity

Our Catholic identity is reflected to living the Gospel values through our thoughts, words and actions with a focus on love, hope, justice and forgiveness. Our Christian spirit and values permeate all areas of learning and school life and determine the daily life of the school.

Religious education

Formal Religious Education lessons are taught each week by classroom teachers as part of the school curriculum. The content is divided into four strands: Scripture, Beliefs, Prayer and Celebration and Morality.

Teachers receive regular professional development opportunities from Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office and work extremely hard to ensure Religious Education lessons are engaging and include the same amount of rigor as other curriculum areas.

Religious life of the school

Our students come together to celebrate a range of liturgical events over the course of the school year that enhance their understanding of prayer and ritual, spiritual formation and a sense of sacred space. Some of the liturgical celebrations include: Leadership Mass, Ash Wednesday, Easter, NAIDOC, Catholic Education Week, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparent’s Day. Parents and the local community are also invited to participate.

St Joseph’s participates and supports a number of social justice initiatives across the year. Some of these include Project Compassion and Socktober.

Parish Sacramental program

St Joseph’s encourages and supports the Parish family based, sacramental program. The sacramental program is carried out within the Parish and is a family-based program. Parents have a key role in the preparation of their children for reception of the sacraments.

The program for each of the sacraments (Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist) commences with a parent meeting and continues with groups of families meeting together ( 4 or 5 times) to instruct the children. Parents have the responsibility for deciding if and when a child is to be prepared and presented for reception of the sacraments.
